The Department has built a strong multi-displinary team of primary care researchers who work closely with local and international partners to conduct high impact research to improve patient care and healthcare delivery. The key research expertise are in the field of Digital Health, Medication optimisation, Shared decision making, Respiratory disease, Men’s Health, and Domestic violence
Research Focus
A wide range of digital health research has been conducted in our department which includes telemonitoring, teleconsultation, health informatics, digital health implementation, decision aid in electronic medical records, online patient tools and patient education applications.
Medication optimisation is a change in the way that patients are supported to get the best possible outcomes from their medicines, through the adoption of a patient-focused approach to medicines use.
Facilitating the understanding, adoption and implementation of shared decision making in primary care consultations is done through various research projects in the department.
Good quality research on respiratory diseases is important and could lead to improvement in patient care.
Men’s health came to be central to RUKA’s work when researchers found that men had life expectancies that were, on average, 5 years shorter than women.
The department is carrying out various research projects to look into ways in supporting women and children who are involved in family violence.
