The department is both an academic and clinical division at the Universiti Malaya. Since its establishment in 1987, our team of passionate educators, researchers, and healthcare professionals has worked collaboratively to foster a holistic approach to healthcare delivery.

We provide a comprehensive and innovative education that prepares undergraduate and postgraduate clinical students for the dynamic landscape of primary care in Malaysia. Our department also offers research postgraduate programmes such as Master of Medical Science and PhD.

Our research projects are diverse yet focused on providing patient-centred care and empowering self-care. There are six major areas: respiratory diseases, medication optimization, men's health, family violence, digital health and shared decision-making. Within these areas, we investigate exciting concepts to incorporate implementation science to improve education and health in the country. Our department operates the general outpatient department at the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre.
