Lung Function Tests

Personal FEV1 or PEF should be measured and recorded as the baseline reading. During routine reviews, PEF should be measured to:

  • Assess the response to a new treatment initiated, or
  • Assess the response when a change of treatment is made (stepping up or down).

Otherwise, regular or more frequent PEF monitoring is only recommended for patients with severe asthma.
